Gary has represented England in the 1998 World Cup and has been a regular for his country since first appearing on the international scene, although he did miss out playing in Euro 96. He and his brother, Phil, are the first brothers to play for England since Jack and Bobby Charlton.
Has the record for the most appearances for England in the European Championship Finals.
Member of England's 2006 World Cup squad.
Missed the last England squad of the 2006/7 season due to injury. Gary is still out of action with this ankle problem, but as of 4 October 2007 it looks as though he may be returning to the field soon.
