After great disappointment at missing the 1998 World Cup in France, Phil's international career has improved. He was selected for England's Euro 2000 squad, playing in all the first round matches, however, unfortunately, at the moment he is remembered for conceeding the penalty which ultimately resulted in England being knocked out of the competition.
Since losing his place for the 98 World Cup, Phil has been a regular in the England squad. He and his brother, Gary, are the first brothers to represent England since the Jack and Bobby Charlton.
Phil transferred to Everton in August 2005 and is the club captain.
Called up late to the stand-by list for England's 2006 World Cup squad.
