The original Wembley Stadium (know as the Empire Stadium) was built in 1923 and hosted England national team football games as well as FA Cup Finals and
other major sporting events. It was demolished in 2000 to make way for the new, state-of-the-art stadium. The original Wembley Stadium was famous for it's twin
towers, but whilst plans were to incorporate the towers in the new stadium, it was later determined unfeasible. England's first game at the new Wembley, which is situated in the north-west of London, was 1 June 2006 when they played a friendly against Brazil. The new stadium's capacity is 90,000. |
